Use FAOSTAT (FAO) from your AI

FAO's food and agriculture statistics for 245+ countries since 1961: crop and livestock production, trade, food balance sheets, producer prices, land use and more (70+ FAOSTAT domains), plus the FAO-custodied SDG indicators (undernourishment, food insecurity, forest area, water stress). SDG tools need no account; FAOSTAT domains use your free FAOSTAT Developer Portal login.

This server connects your AI client to two FAO data services.

FAOSTAT domains (REST API; free Developer Portal account required):

  • list_faostat_domains: find datasets such as QCL (crops and livestock production), TCL (trade), FBS (food balances), PP (producer prices), RL (land use).
  • list_faostat_dimensions: see a domain's dimensions (area, item, element, year, ...).
  • list_faostat_codes: look up area / item / element / year codes by keyword.
  • get_faostat_data: fetch observations filtered by those codes, with units and FAO flags.

SDG indicators (SDMX API; no account):

  • search_sdg_dataflows: the 27 FAO-custodied SDG indicator dataflows (2.1.1 undernourishment, 2.1.2 food insecurity, 2.4.1 sustainable agriculture, 6.4.2 water stress, 15.1.1 forest area, ...).
  • get_sdg_dimensions / get_sdg_data: inspect a dataflow's dimensions and fetch observations by dimension key.

Since 2025 the FAOSTAT REST API requires a login: register for free at the FAOSTAT Developer Portal and set FAOSTAT_USERNAME (account e-mail) and FAOSTAT_PASSWORD. The server signs in for each request and never stores the token. Data are licensed under CC BY 4.0 (FAO Statistical Database Terms of Use); every response carries the required attribution line.
